Heidenheim sign Regensburg skipper Gimber

Newly promoted Bundesliga side 1. FC Heidenheim confirmed their second summer signing on Monday afternoon. 
After confirming the return of attacking midfielder Nikola Dovedan last week, newly promoted Bundesligists 1. FC Heidenheim unveiled their second summer signing on Monday afternoon. SSV Jahn Regensburg captain Benedikt Gimber will join the FCH on a free following his club's relegation to the third division.

The former Hoffenheim academy man has amassed a total of 159 2. Bundesliga appearances for Regensburg, Sandhausen, Ingolstadt, and Karlsruhe. Heidenheim have nevertheless procured a 26-year-old top-tier rookie for the coming campaign. Gimber, a stay-at-home defensive midfielder has scored five goals and provided eight assists during his second division career.

"It's just insane to think about playing in the Bundesliga next year," Gimber remarked in a statement accompanying the signing released by the club,  "When I was informed about the interest of FCH, I didn't have to think long. It's always been a career goal of mine to play in Germany's top division, and that's now coming true with FCH. I'm simply delighted that it has worked out. Together, we'll try to stay in the league."

"Benedikt is an experienced leader who brings quality and stability to the six-man position," FCH personnel boss Robert Strauß added in his own statement, "In addition, he is an excellent character fit for our team. "We are delighted that we were able to win Benedikt for FCH and look forward with confidence to the upcoming Bundesliga season with him."

Gimber - valued at €1.5 million by transfermarkt - receives a two-year-contract at the BaWü border club.
