Adeyemi on rebuilding with U21s: "You get out of every difficult phase at some point."
Current Germany U21 attacker Karim Adeyemi has spoken on the poor run-of-form that placed him with the Germany U21s during the current international break.
Upon the release of his roster for the current international break, Germany U21 head-coach Antonio di Salvo revealed that personal discussions with Bundestrainer Julian Nagelsmann had led to the decision to place Borussia Dortmund attacker Karim Adeyemi with the DFB Juniors this time around. The 21-year-old has been capped four times at senior level and even featured in Hansi Flick's 2022 World Cup squad in Qatar.
Speaking at a Thursday media round, Adeyemi acknowledged that his recent form for club left him with something to prove. The Munich-native has not yet gotten his name on the scoresheet in seven appearances (two starts) across all competitions this season. The last time Adeyemi registered a league goal (two, in fact) was on match-day 31 of the previous campaign. Some instances in which he was booked for diving last season also still hang over him.
"Last year, I had a few actions where - I have to say - that you don't necessarily have to go and I got a yellow card for it once," Adeyemi noted on Thursday in specific reference to the diving issue, "but I take it with a smile and in stride. I don't think it's a personal problem - hopefully."
"I accept the criticism," Adeyemi noted when it came time to address his current form, "At the moment, I'm not playing well. That's no one else's fault and only I can change that. There are phases when things just don't work out. But you get out of every difficult phase at some point."
"I'm doing my best to get back on track as quickly as possible," he continued, "Whether its with BVB or the U21s. The U21s are good for me now. I had a good feeling [about this call-up] and was happy to be allowed to play for the U21s again. I'm fired up and ready to play a good game [against Bulgaria]."
