Undav after missed penalty: "I disappointed the fans and the team."

A goal from Serhou Guirassy's direct replacement proved insufficient for VfB Stuttgart to overcome visiting TSG 1899 Hoffenheim on Saturday afternoon.

Speaking to the Sky microphones afterward, Brighton & Hove Albion loanee Deniz Undav apologized to his hometown fans for a missed penalty early in the match.
Deniz Undav did end up scoring his fourth league goal for his current club late in Saturday afternoon's home fixture against Hoffenheim. The Achim native - in  his first ever start in the top flight of his home country - nevertheless felt as if he cost his German club a chance at points after missing from the penalty spot in the first half.

Knowing full well that deputizing for injured goal-machine Serhou Guirassy wasn't going to be easy, Undav admitted he wasn't satisfied with his performance in his post-match interview with Sky Germany.

"It's a different feeling when you're involved from start," the 27-year-old told his interviewer, "Everyone expects the same from me as Serhou. Unfortunately, I disappointed the fans and the team. That has to improve."

"One can take many positives out of it," the goalscorer and provider of an assist continued, "but also a lot of negatives. We built up pressure but didn't make it happen. We need to focus on possession, defense, and just execute."
