Honorat delights as Gladbach gallop to victory over toothless Wolfsburg
Bundesliga Matchday 11 got under way this evening as Mönchengladbach welcomed Wolfsburg in a curtain-raiser where the hosts prevailed 4-0.
In adverse weather conditions, Gerardo Seoane's outfit made the breakthrough inside 16 minutes of action at the Borussia Park. A fine one-two between Pleá and Honourat afforded the latter time to pick out Čvančara. The Czech striker made light work of the six-yard effort.
As the interval approached, Wolfsburg created their best chance solely through the determination of Jonas Wind who narrowly fired wide. However, Gladbach extended their lead to 2-0 when Casteels' loose pass was intercepted by Reitz. With the goal at his mercy, the youngster remained composed to weave inside Vranckx and fire home.
Kovac made one half-time alteration as Cozza replaced Rogerio in defence. Wolfsburg looked vastly improved as Moritz Nicolas was tested twice while the upright came to his rescue to deny Wind. The game appeared to be put to bed when Honorat's blistering hit ripped through Casteels' grasp for 3-0 in the 63rd minute.
Pleá added his name to the scoresheet with less than 20 minutes to play as Joe Scally provided the killer pass. Gladbach's margin of victory could've been extended late on but for Bornauw who cut the figure of a lone wolf all night in the Saxony club's rearguard.
