Harry Kane scored a brace as Bayern Munich crushed Lazio 3-0 to book their place in the Champions League quarter-finals, giving the German champions and coach Thomas Tuchel some much-needed breathing space.

Having lost the first leg 1-0 in Italy, the Bavarians had their backs to the wall going into the game, with reports suggesting that Thomas Tuchel would be in serious danger of being sacked immediately, rather than stepping down in the summer as planned, if the game ended in failure.

But unlike Friday's underwhelming 2-2 draw with Freiburg, Bayern were on the front foot from the outset and were rewarded for their dominance of possession and chances Ivan Provedel couldn't keep out Harry Kane's header in the 38th minute.

Bayern then added another goal before the break when Matthijs de Ligt's volley was met by Thomas Muller's header.

The game was effectively over midway through the second half when Harry Kane scored his second of the night. The England captain was in the right place at the right time to pounce on the rebound after Provedel had saved Leroy Sané's shot.

The win will give a much-needed confidence boost to a Bayern side who sit 10 points behind Bayer Leverkusen at the top of the Bundesliga ahead of Saturday's home clash with Mainz.
