Hoeneß endorses Führich-Mittelstädt partnership for German national team

After another quality performance from both players in last night's victory, VfB Stuttgart head-coach Sebastian Hoeneß didn't hesitate when asked if his left-side duo of Chris Führich and Maximilian Mittelstädt should be given a chance to work together on the German national team.
Another league victory for VfB Stuttgart last night saw Sebastian Hoeneß' Swabians take another important step towards clinching Champions' League football next season. Speaking to the DAZN microphones after the match, Stuttgart's head coach heaped praise on his left-side duo of Chris Führich and Maximilian Mittelstädt.

The pair once again delivered a superb performance, creating plenty of scoring chances and maintaining a consistent tempo on their side of the pitch. Führich scored the decisive goal that helped Stuttgart seal the victory. Mittelstädt remained active alongside Führich on over-and-underlaps all night.

"They've proven that they function well together almost every week this season," Hoeneß told his interviewer, "They've played themselves into the limelight and are in excellent form. That could be an important sign and a solid impulse that our national team could use."

Führich's excellent form at the beginning of the season led to him getting a surprise call-up to the German national team. Mittelstädt began to round himself into better form after the last International break in November, meaning he hasn't gotten the chance yet to audition for die Nationalmannschaft.

"The fact that I run up with him means that we can out-number opponents on our side," Mittelstädt said of his work with Führich last night, "[when it comes to a call-up from Bundestrainer Julian Nagelsmann] my cell-phone is always on."
