Rudi Völler: 'In Kai Havertz, we have the best German player of the next 10 years'

Kai Havertz has been singled out for praise by Leverkusen boss Rudi Völler amid speculation that he could be staying at BayArena beyond the summer after all.

Bayer Leverkusen managing director Rudi Völler believes Kai Havertz will emerge as the best German player in the years to come.

"In Kai, we have the best German player of the next 10 years," Völler said in an interview with Kicker.

Earlier this season, Leverkusen slapped an asking price of at least €126 million on Havertz, but with the coronavirus outbreak hitting football hard, it seems unlikely that any club will be able to meet his price tag.

Therefore, the 20-year-old seems increasingly likely to spend another season at BayArena.

"It's true that the summer market will be different this summer. We have to accept that," Völler said.

"I know Kai is comfortable here. We are in close contact with his agent," he added.

Havertz's contract with Leverkusen runs until 2022.
