Dayot Upamecano recently put pen to paper on a new contract with RB Leipzig, committing himself to the club until 2023.

The 21-year-old was touted for a move away from the club, but has now put speculation about his future to bed. For now, at least.

According to Kicker, Upamecano's new contract includes a €42 million release clause, which will be active from next summer.

At this point, RB Leipzig are just delighted that the Frenchman will stay on board for the 2020/21 season.

"He's an exceptional defensive talent, who has an unbelievable amount of potential," says RB Leipzig coach Julian Nagelsmann.

"He is super fast and has a huge body."

RB Leipzig paid €10 million to sign Upamecano from their Austrian sister-club RB Salzburg back in January 2017.
