Marcel Sabitzer has been made new RB Leipzig captain ahead of the 2020/21 season, taking over the responsibility from Willi Orban.

Orban, who missed the majority of last season due to a long-term injury, remains part of the team council, which besides Sabitzer also includes Peter Gulacsi, Yussuf Poulsen, Marcel Halstenberg and Dayot Upamecano.

"'Sabbi' has often led our team as captain due to Willi's injury last season. He has shown, even in decisive matches, that he takes responsibility," said RB Leipzig coach Julian Nagelsmann and added:

"Having been our captain for many years, Willi remains an important leading player for us and will of course remain a member of the team council. It is important for the future that the six players go ahead and lead the young group in the right direction."
