Report: Ridle Baku deal stalls over price

FSV Mainz 05 Managing Director Rouven Schröder has made no secret of his desire to sell his highest valued players. He also wants top dollar.

German footballing magazine Kicker reports that VfL Wolfsburg's attempts to acquire right back Ridle Baku will likely result in some prolonged haggling.

Speaking to Mainz's "Allgemeine Zeitung" over the weekend, Routen Schröder confirmed that Wolfsburg had contacted him about one of his on-market players. "There was a brief exchange between Wolfsburg and myself," the managing director told the daily newspaper.

Perhaps acutely aware that long-term injuries to Kevin Mbabu and William Furtado render Wolfsburg's needs acute, Schröder also added, "However, we remain very satisfied with Ridle. We have a goal in Mainz to put together the best team possible. Ridle belongs to that."

Kicker's information suggests that this may be the opening salvo in a game of high stakes poker. Schröder reportedly wants €10 million for the Germany U21 player whilst the Wolves don't want to pay more than half that. Wolfsburg's injury ravaged defensive corps may force the hand of Germany's green company team.

The German footballing magazine seems to predict a long, drawn out saga that won't end until October 5th.
