Schalke horror-show continues, Rønnow plays second half

A new coach and new keeper made no difference for the tortured Knappen. They fell again on Saturday 0-4 to Leipzig.

The Schalke horror-show continues on unabated. Not even a switch to a different keeper at halftime could stanch the bleeding as the Königsblauen got blanked by RB Leipzig. Schalke's composite goal ratio now stands at 1:15

New trainer Manuel Baum, in an attempt to solve the club's lack of a true right fullback, reverted to a back-three and built a wide midfield axis consisting of Omar Mascarell, Bastian Oczipka, and Alessandro Schöpf. Nabil Bentaleb moved up into an attacking position alongside the returning Suat Serdar.

A re-aggravation of Serdar's injury seemed to deflate the squad. Less than ten minutes after Serdar was subbed of in the 23rd, replacement midfielder Can Bozdogan scored an own-goal to put Leipzig up 1-0. Angelino and William Orban would add two more goals before the break.

Newly-acquired keeper Frederick Rønnow got his chance after the restart when Ralph Fährmann succumbed to muscular problems. The Danish international did not concede despite heavy bombardment. He was off, however, when Marcel Sabitzer converted a penalty in the 80th.

Another torrid day for the Königsblauen wrapped with a 0-4 defeat.
