Mats Hummels' contract with Borussia Dortmund includes an appearance-based extension clause, according to Sport Bild.

The 31-year-old's current deal, which expires in 2022, will be extended by a further year if he makes 22 competitive appearances next season, as per the German publication.

Speaking to Sport Bild, Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke says Hummels has "fulfilled the expectations to 100 percent" since returning to Signal Iduna Park from Bayern München in 2019.

Hummels has featured in all but one game for Dortmund so far this season.
