Germany's red company team, coming off their own 3-0 thrashing of 1. FC Köln on Saturday, do not exactly constitute easy opponents. FCB trainer Hans Dieter Flick, who shocked everyone by announcing that he would leave his position at the end of the season on Saturday, mostly fielded injury questions at a Monday afternoon presser.
Flick confirmed that Lucas Hernandez, David Alaba, and Leroy Sané--all of whom sustained minor knocks in Saturday's victory--partook in full time training and would be available. Additionally, midfielder Leon Goretzka absolved a full training regimen and has been deemed fit.
Serge Gnabry remains sidelined, still recuperating from his bout with COVID-19. The German national team attacker remains isolated from the squad, though a return by Thursday and possible availability for the weekend is still hoped for.
World footballer-of-the-year Robert Lewandowski also remains right on schedule and is expected to return for the round 31 encounter against Mainz on Saturday. Flick didn't seem to even overtly rule him out for Leverkusen when remarking how the Pollack looked on the training pitch.
"He makes an excellent impression," Flick noted, "but I think the game against Leverkusen may come too soon."
