Peter Gulacsi has been named new RB Leipzig captain following Marcel Sabitzer's recent departure to Bayern München.

The decision was made by RB Leipzig coach Jesse Marsch and his coaching staff on Thursday.

"It's an honor and also a huge responsibility for me," said Gulacsi.

"I want to use my experience and quality to help the team, be positive and support everyone in order for us to have a successful season," added the 31-year-old goalkeeper.

Kevin Kampl and Willi Orban have been selected as vice captains, with Marcel Halstenberg, Emil Forsberg and Yussuf Poulsen also part of the six-man team council.
