Mainz 05 have loaned Hyun-seok Hong to Danish top-flight club and Conference League participant FC Midtjylland.

The attacking midfielder spent the second half of last season on loan at KAA Gent after initially joining FC Nantes on a temporary basis earlier in the campaign. The 16-time South Korea international remains under contract with Mainz until 2028.

Mainz sporting director Niko Bungert explained the decision to loan out the midfielder:

“Hyun-seok showed tremendous commitment and excellent physical condition during preseason training with us, but due to the high level of competition, we couldn’t offer him any playing time. Therefore, we agreed to the loan transfer to FC Midtjylland.

“We hope that he gets the playing time he needs there, given his club’s participation in the league, cup and Conference League, and that he can work his way back into the spotlight.”
