As Hannover 96 officially announced this evening, Monday, 14 September, head coach Christian Titz has been dismissed.
The decision comes after the promotion hopefuls – who finished fourth last season – were defeated 2-1 by 1.FC Nürnberg on Friday.
This year, things have gone from bad to worse for the Lower Saxony club, picking up just four points from their first five games.
Now, U-23 coach Lars Barlemann will take over the first team on an interim basis, preparing them for next Sunday's clash with VfL Bochum.
“It was our shared goal to build on the previous season,” said Hannover 96 managing director Jonas Boldt, who confirmed the separation.
"Coupled with the justified hope that we could carry some momentum into the new season. Unfortunately, this didn't materialize as desired.
"The weekend after the defeat in Nürnberg, we had open discussions and closely examined the course of the past weeks and months.
"Our team lacked stability and clarity in crucial moments – we failed to achieve a consistent level of performance.
"At the same time, negative patterns emerged that were also apparent towards the end of the previous season.
“This decision now gives us the opportunity to readjust – with the clear objective that we all at Hannover 96 pull together with full energy in a common direction,” he added.
