Piecing together what caused Hamburger SV's 5-0 loss to Mainz this afternoon, Merlin Polzin refrained from critiquing his players.
"Everyone saw the game. The result speaks for itself. It was a totally shitty afternoon for us," the HSV coach said in his post match interview.
"We deserved to lose completely. There are many things we want and need to work on to make sure we do better next week.
“It's not about sugarcoating things or finding explanations based on emotion. We'll do that calmly in the analysis,” he added.
Under no illusions of the threat their opponents posed on the break, Polzin feels his team must work together to improve their performance.
"There were a lot of little things that didn't click. That will certainly be a focus of the analysis, why it didn't work.
"It's not about singling out individuals, whether for good or bad performances. We're all going through these phases together.
"It's a moment that hurts immensely and that we didn't expect. It shows us all that we need to stay focused and nail the basics," he concluded.
