Real Madrid to pull back in their pursuit of Davies?

Marca are reporting that Real Madrid could be backing down in their bid to sign Alphonso Davies.

Alphonso Davies has been linked with a move to Real Madrid for several months, and some reports have even claimed that the Bayern Munich left-back has an agreement in place with the La Liga giants.

However, according to Marca, there appears to have been a change of heart in the Spanish capital when it comes to signing the Canada international, who is under contract with Bayern until 2025.

The Spanish publication claims that Real want to decide whether to stick with Ferland Mendy or replace him with Davies, with the pendulum currently clearly swinging in favor of the Frenchman.

Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti, in particular, is a big fan of Mendy, who is more defensive-minded than Davies. The Frenchman has struggled with injuries this season, but has been a regular starter when he's been fit.

Davies and Bayern will go head-to-head with Mendy and Real Madrid in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

Ancelotti refused to talk about Davies at his pre-match press conference, telling reporters:

“I can talk about Mendy. He has recovered very well and is ready for tomorrow. I don't talk about rival players.”
