FC Schalke 04 have confirmed this Tuesday evening, 15 September, that Dejan Ljubičić will be sidelined “for the foreseeable future."

Ljubičić was swiftly taken off in the 21st-minute of Schalke’s 3-1 victory away to 1.FC Union Berlin last Friday evening.

Folloing the game and tests conducted by the club's medical personnel, the Austrian has seemingly suffered an injury to his left knee.

On a positive note, after next Sunday's meeting with SV Elversberg, there is an extended international break coming up.

Schalke can regather and train in preparation for the Bundesliga's return, where they travel to take on SC Freiburg on Sunday, 11 October.

Still, it remains unclear whether Ljubičić will be available for selection by then – the Vienna was not called up by the Austrian national team.
