Simon Rolfes: “We're fighting to keep Wirtz”

Bayer Leverkusen’s managing director for sport talks about Wirtz’s future ahead of their game against Borussia Dortmund.

On the pitch, Bayer Leverkusen is clashing with Borussia Dortmund in the first Sunday encounter of the penultimate weekend. However, Die Werkself’s big battle these days has been with Bayern Munich regarding their star player.

There is no secret that Bayern have Florian Wirtz as their priority signing for quite some time. And, as it was mentioned multiple times during the year, this summer seems the perfect time for Bayern to add the attacking midfielder to their ranks.

"What's sometimes reported in the media, or specifically in one media outlet, is one thing, but we really have a very trusting relationship,” said Simon Rolfes ahead of today’s game in an interview with DAZN.

Leverkusen’s managing director also added that they’re working to postpone the inevitable as they already have to make lots of changes this summer. “He's a Bayer 04 player, and we're fighting to keep him that way next year."
