Stefan Kuntz has had his contract as Hamburger SV’s board member for sport terminated with immediate effect.
The Bundesliga club announced the decision on Friday, citing “personal and family related reasons” for the termination.
Kuntz was appointed board member for sport in May 2024 and helped Die Rothosen’s to promotion to the Bundesliga last season.
“Sometimes, there are more important things than football," said Kuntz, adding:
"That is the case for me now. I do not wish to say anything more about this and I ask that this wish is respected. I would like to thank HSV for a brilliant year and a half. I wish the team and everyone involved in the management all the best for the future.”
“Stefan has achieved a lot with his team. We wish him all the best for his personal future," said HSV chairman Michael Papenfuß on behalf of the supervisory board.
“In recent days, we have held many discussions and, with board member Eric Huwer and a strong second level of management, we are well positioned for the tasks ahead.”
