Union Berlin ended an 11-game winless streak in all competitions on Sunday, beating Mainz 2-1 at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei.

The win will be very welcomed by Steffen Baumgart, who lost his first two games in charge of the club.

The home side could hardly have hoped for a better start, as Benedikt Hollerbach capitalized on a mistake by Danny da Costa to open the scoring shortly after the first whistle.

Mainz were quick to level when Nadiem Amiri scored from the penalty spot five minutes from time. But Union regained the lead from the spot after 24 minutes when Robert Skov converted after Hollerbach was fouled by Dominik Kohr.

That proved to be the last goal of the game after a second half of few chances.

The win lifts Union up to 12th in the table, with Mainz sixth.
