Following reports that Bayern Munich were hoping to confirm Ralf Rangnick as their new coach in the near future, their search for a new head coach was dealt a blow when it was announced on Thursday morning that the 65-year-old will not be replacing Thomas Tuchel after all.

"I would like to emphasize that this is not a rejection of FC Bayern, but a decision for my team and our common goals. Our full concentration is on the European Championship. We will do everything we can to advance as far as possible," Rangnick said in official statement.

According to German media, Rangnick's decision was indeed based on personal reasons and wasn't due to Bayern's offer.

Bild reports that Rangnick didn't want to completely change his life and take on two demanding tasks at the same time, such as planning next season with Bayern Munich while leading Austria in the European Championship.

Rangnick knows what kind of pressure comes with being the coach of Bayern and at his age, he's not ready to take on that task under the current circumstances.

With Julian Nagelsmann, Xabi Alonso and now Ralf Rangnick out of the running, it will be interesting to see who Bayern turn to next.

Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen ruled out the possibility of keeping Thomas Tuchel after Tuesday's 2-2 draw with Real Madrid.
