Arminia Bielefeld host Eintracht Braunschweig on Friday evening in a 2. Bundesliga encounter between two sides separated by just one point in the table.
Arminia sit ninth with 11 points from nine matches, while Braunschweig occupy 10th place with 10 points. Both teams will be looking to build on their respective campaigns as the season progresses, with the hosts aiming to maintain their unbeaten home record and the visitors hoping to carry the momentum of their recent derby victory into another important fixture.
Arminia Bielefeld
Oliver Kirch’s side will be eager to respond after suffering a narrow 1-0 defeat away to Hertha BSC last weekend. Arminia were unable to find a breakthrough in Berlin, but their overall home form provides encouragement ahead of Friday’s encounter.
The hosts remain unbeaten at the SchücoArena in the league this season, having recorded two wins and two draws from their opening four home matches. Consecutive victories over VfL Bochum and VfL Osnabrück before the Hertha defeat also demonstrated their ability to compete against teams around them in the division.
Kirch wants his team to adopt a more attacking approach against Braunschweig, with greater emphasis on creating opportunities through possession and pressing higher up the pitch. The Arminia coach also recognises the threat posed by the visitors’ counter-attacking game, making defensive organisation an important consideration.
Joel Grodowski will be one of the players to watch in the home attack. With five league goals to his name ahead of the fixture, the forward represents a key source of attacking threat for Arminia as they look to return to winning ways.
Eintracht Braunschweig
Eintracht Braunschweig travel to Bielefeld in positive spirits after claiming a 2-0 victory over rivals Hannover 96 last weekend. Yan Sturm and Max Marie scored the goals in an important derby triumph, giving Lars Kornetka’s team a confidence boost ahead of their trip to East Westphalia.
The result followed a 2-0 defeat away to Greuther Fürth, meaning Braunschweig will be keen to demonstrate greater consistency. Their recent victory over Hannover nevertheless highlighted the attacking contribution of their younger players and the potential they possess going forward.
Kornetka has acknowledged that his side are still working towards controlling matches for the full 90 minutes. The Braunschweig coach believes the derby victory provides a platform to build on, although his team will need to remain disciplined against an Arminia side that has proved difficult to beat at home.
Aaron Opoku will be an important figure for the visitors, providing experience and energy in attack. Sturm and Marie will also hope to continue their promising form after finding the net against Hannover.
Head-to-head record
Arminia Bielefeld have enjoyed the better of recent meetings between the clubs, remaining unbeaten in their last seven encounters with Braunschweig. The hosts have also lost just once in their previous 13 home matches against the Lower Saxony side.
The most recent league meeting took place in February 2026, when Arminia recorded a 3-2 victory. Their previous encounter in August 2025 ended in a 1-1 draw.
The overall record between the sides in the 2. Bundesliga also favours Arminia, who have recorded six wins and four draws in 14 meetings, compared with four victories for Braunschweig.
That history should provide the hosts with confidence, although Braunschweig will be determined to end their difficult run against Friday’s opponents.
Team news
Arminia Bielefeld
David Min is a doubt for Arminia after suffering a thigh injury. The forward was still unable to participate in full team training earlier in the week, leaving Kirch to make a late decision on his availability.
The Arminia coach otherwise reported no further absences ahead of Friday’s match. Should Min be unavailable, the hosts will look to their existing attacking options to compensate.
Eintracht Braunschweig
Samuele Di Benedetto is expected to miss several weeks after sustaining a medial ligament injury to his left knee during the victory over Hannover.
Frederik Jäkel also remains sidelined as he continues his rehabilitation from a cruciate ligament injury. There had initially been concerns over goalkeeper Thorben Hoffmann following a collision in the derby, but Kornetka confirmed that the goalkeeper had returned to training and would be available for selection.
Braunschweig therefore have some absences to manage, but Hoffmann’s availability represents a positive development ahead of the trip.
