Torsten Lieberknecht's Kaiserslautern kept yet another clean sheet as a narrow win at Osnabrück helped them reach 21 points despite only scoring 10 goals in 11 games.
The return of Ivan Prtajin to the starting lineup was a huge boost for the visitors, although the Croat striker didn't have the same impact to his first game back from an ACL injury. Instead, his half-time replacement Thierry Tazemeta scored the only goal of the game ten minutes after the restart.
The former BVB youth player scored from close range after a brilliant play from Naatan Skyttä and Paul Joly in Kaiserslautern's right flank. After a lackluster first-half, both teams came to life after the break, but Kaiserslautern's solid defense didn't allow many chances as Julian Krahl kept his eighth clean sheet of the campaign.
At least until Wolfsburg's tricky trip to Hertha on Sunday afternoon, the Reds climbed to third in the standings. Osnabrück lost at home for the first time since October's international break.
