One of Augsburg's promising new summer signings is unfortunately set for a long spell on the sidelines. German defender Kevin Schlotterbeck scored a gorgeous artistic goal off the volley in Friday night's 2-1 win over Borussia Mönchengladbach, yet had to exit proceedings early with a thigh injury.
On Monday, the Fuggerstädter confirmed that the 27-year-old suffered a muscle fiber tear. How long Schlotterbeck will be out for remains unclear, but it counts as almost certain that he will not be available to face his former club SC Freiburg when league play resumes after the international break.
Schlotterbeck's second goal of the season pumped up his total tallies over the past two seasons to seven in the league. No other Bundesliga defender - not even Keven's higher profile younger brother Nico of German national team fame - has scored more.
Since finally gaining regular playing time for Bochum in the second-half of the 2022/23 campaign, Schlotterbeck has made quite a name for himself in the top flight. The German Olympic representative has scored nine league goals and pocketed three assists in that span.
