Bayern Munich vs. Freiburg preview: Vincent Kompany's first home game
Bayern Munich
Kompany has already overseen two competitive matches after replacing Thomas Tuchel during the summer. The former Burnley boss began his tenure with a dominant 4-0 win over Ulm in the DFB-Pokal before his team came from behind to beat Wolfsburg in their league opener.
Jamal Musiala opened the scoring, before Lovro Majer netted an eight-minute brace to turn the game in Wolfsburg’s favour. However, Bayern still managed to snatch all three points thanks to an own goal and a Serge Gnabry winner.
After claiming an away win over Wolfsburg, the Bavarians will now return to the Allianz Arena for the first home game of Kompany’s tenure. Bayern will fancy their chances of claiming all three points after winning 19 of their last 20 Bundesliga home games against Freiburg (D1). The Bavarians have also won their last two home meetings without conceding, recording a 5-0 win in October 2022 before claiming a 3-0 victory in October 2023.

The hosts are expected to be without the services of Josip Stanišić, Hiroki Ito, Daniel Peretz, Arijon Ibrahimović and Tarek Buchmann.
Freiburg
Freiburg have experienced a positive start in their first season since the departure of long-serving head coach Christian Streich. Ex-Freiburg midfielder Julian Schuster began his tenure with a dominant 4-0 win over Osnabrück in the Pokal. The Breisgau-Brasilianer then kicked off their Bundesliga campaign with a home win over Champions League participants Stuttgart. Lukas Kübler netted a brace alongside a Ritsu Dōan effort to fire Freiburg to maximum points on the opening weekend of the Bundesliga season.
Schuster’s side will now head on their travels for a difficult fixture against Bayern. Freiburg will be looking to avoid defeat in an away league game against Bayern for the first time since November 2018. They may be able to take confidence from their most recent result against the Bavarians in March. On that occasion, Freiburg played out a 2-2 draw at the Europa-Park Stadion thanks to efforts from Christian Günter and Lucas Höler.
Team News
Freiburg are unable to call upon Manuel Gulde, Michael Gregoritsch, Daniel-Kofi Kyereh and Maximilian Phillip.
