Bochum sign striker Ibrahim Sissoko on free transfer

VfL Bochum have made a new addition to their attacking ranks by signing 29-year-old striker Ibrahim Sissoko.

The French forward arrives on a free transfer from AS Saint-Étienne, despite having a contract with the Ligue 1 side that was originally set to run until 2026.

Sissoko is not related to VfL’s midfielder Ibrahima Sissoko (27), though the shared surname may raise a few eyebrows among fans.

The towering 1.92m right-footed striker found limited opportunities last season, scoring three goals in 22 appearances for Saint-Étienne, who were relegated from Ligue 1. Bochum have not disclosed the duration of Sissoko’s contract.

Despite his recent dip in form, Bochum sporting director Dirk Dufner is confident in the new signing’s potential. “Ibrahim Sissoko is a classic centre-forward. His physical presence, powerful playing style, and eye for goal will suit our game perfectly. We’re very happy that he chose to join us,” said Dufner.

Sissoko himself is excited about the move to Germany. “I’ve heard a lot about the incredible atmosphere in German stadiums and I can’t wait to experience it firsthand,” he said.

Bochum will be hoping Sissoko can help bolster their attack as they aim for a strong campaign in the upcoming season.
