Report: Brighton buy-back option blocks Undav's permanent move to Stuttgart

Despite having a purchase option, VfB Stuttgart are yet to sign Deniz Undav on a permanent basis, with Brighton & Hove Albion's buy-back option apparently holding them back.

After impressing on loan at Brighton & Hove Albion, Deniz Undav wants to stay at VfB Stuttgart and the Swabian club are keen to tie him down to a permanent deal.

Despite having a reported €20 million buyout option, Stuttgart have made no progress in their attempts to sign the striker permanently - and apparently there's a specific reason for that.

According to Kicker, Brighton have a buy-back option that would allow them to re-sign Undav for a slightly higher fee should Stuttgart exercise their option.

Brighton have made it clear in talks so far that they are prepared to counter VfB's purchase option with their own buy-back option, according to the report.

The clauses are still valid until June 30th and the last word in the negotiations hasn't been said yet.

Undav, 27, scored 18 goals and provided 10 assists in 30 appearances for Stuttgart in the 2023/24 season. He's part of Germany's squad for the European Championship.
