Daniel Caligiuri made his Bundesliga debut in 2009 when he assisted Freiburg's first goal in a 2-1 win over Bochum. Some 14 years later, he made his last Bundesliga appearance with Augsburg in the 2022-23 season.
He played 372 Bundesliga games for Freiburg, Wolfsburg, Schalke and Augsburg before joining his hometown club FC 08 Villingen. With his last club, Caligiuri won promotion to Regionalliga.
While Kevin De Bruyne and Bas Dost were the leading figures in Wolfsburg's cup triumph in 2015, Caligiuri was equally impressive. He had two goals and five assists in a campaign that culminated with a comeback win over Dortmund in Jurgen Klopp's farewell game.
Including some memorable strikes, he also scored 51 Bundesliga goals. He also played Champions League football with both Wolfsburg and Schalke.
Having an Italian father, Caliguiri was named in Antonio Conte's preliminary squad for Euro 2016 qualifying match before later being dropped. At club level, he spent his entire career in Germany.
