Multiple reports have suggested that Thomas Muller most likely won't be offered a contract extension at Bayern Munich beyond the summer.

Bayern board member for sport Max Eberl wouldn't confirm or deny anything at a press conference on Thursday, but he did seem to indicate that the 35-year-old's successful spell at the club is about to come to an end.

"I've had a few players at my previous clubs who have marked a great era at a club. But at some point you have to say together that maybe it's over," said Eberl, who went on to clarify that this doesn't necessarily mean that Bayern have reached that point with Müller.

“But we'll do that when the time really comes. Only those of us who are involved can assess the whole thing in advance and how we deal with each other. Once we have made a joint internal decision, we will explain it.”

Bayern and Müller are due to sit down for the third and final round of contract talks this week.

The 35-year-old is reportedly inclined to continue his career in the United States if his contract isn't renewed.
