In a clash between two Bundesliga sides, Eintracht Frankfurt welcome Borussia Mönchengladbach to the Deutsche Bank Park on Wednesday in the second round of the DFB-Pokal.
Eintracht, who are coming off a hard-fought 1-1 draw with Union Berlin, will be hoping for a repeat of their last encounter with Gladbach. Played just over a month ago, that game ended in a 2-0 win for Die Adler thanks to goals from Hugo Larsson and Omar Marmoush.
"It will be a very difficult game against Borussia, just like four weeks ago in the Bundesliga," said Eintracht coach Dino Toppmöller at a press conference on Tuesday.
“We'll try with everything we have to make sure the pendulum swings in our favor again”
Frankfurt lost Rasmus Kristensen to injury in the 1-1 draw with Union Berlin, and Toppmöller has a number of options for how to replace the Danish right-back.
"Tuta could play on the right of a back four instead of Kristensen, with Theate, Amenda or Collins in the centre. In a back five or back three, we have enough players who are comfortable on the right flank," he revealed.
Gladbach, who drew 1-1 with Mainz in their last game on Friday, are optimistic despite the memories of their defeat in September.
"They are a good team and have started well. We know what happened against them a few weeks ago, but we go to Frankfurt with belief and ambition," said Gladbach coach Gerardo Seoane at a press conference on Monday.
Seoane could have Nico Elvedi back in his squad, but he confirmed at the press conference that he's not yet ready to start. He also revealed that a handful of other players are struggling with knocks.
“Nico Elvedi is still a doubt. He hasn't been with the team for 10 days, so he's a substitute at best. There are two or three players with knocks who have only trained individually today. That could affect how we line up,” said Seoane.
