Hamburger SV have completed the permanent signing of Fabio Vieira from Arsenal.

The German club have been pushing to bring the 26-year-old back since his loan spell ended last season and have now secured his return on a long-term deal.

According to reports, HSV are paying a fixed fee of around €9 million for the attacking midfielder.

“Fabio is a football artist in the best sense of the word – a player with outstanding technical ability and a feel for the ball that can captivate spectators. He demonstrated this impressively in the Bundesliga last season,” said HSV board member for sport Kathleen Krüger.

“It makes it all the more significant that a player of this quality has consciously chosen our path and that, just one year after promotion, we have managed to tie him to HSV on a permanent basis. That is anything but a given and a strong sign of our development.

“This would not have been possible without the fantastic work done on the financial side in recent years under Eric’s leadership. Huge credit for that, as well as to Claus, Merlin and our entire team, who have worked tirelessly over the past few weeks to bring Fabio back. We are delighted to welcome Fabio back to the Volkspark.”

Vieira is delighted to be back at the Volksparkstadion.

“I’m very happy to be back here. I already know the club, the fans and many of my teammates. It feels great to be part of it again. I knew from the beginning that there was a possibility I could return. I could feel how much HSV wanted me to come back. Now I’m here again and I can’t wait to get started,” he said following his return.
