In the aftermath of VfB Stuttgart's 2-1 success over Celta Vigo to commence their UEFA Europa League campaign, coach Sebastian Hoeneß expressed his delight over the result.

"We're happy with the win, which I think is absolutely deserved. We were the better team for 85 minutes, played with high intensity, and won the ball many times.

"While we had adequate counterattack defense and played well against a compact opponent, we could have shown even more presence in the penalty area and thus become more compelling.

"In the second half, we managed to create even more opportunities in the dangerous areas and score the goals. Making it 2-0 was very important for the outcome of the game.

"I would like to emphasize the high number of ball recoveries after our pressing – that was really good; we often had smooth transitions from winning the ball to scoring.

“I'm very pleased with the team's approach. This is another step on our path,” said the 43-year-old in the mixed zone after full-time at the MHP Arena.

The Swabians will now sweat over the fitness of Finn Jeltsch who appeared to strain his hamstring before their trip to face 1.FC Köln this Sunday at 5.30pm (CET).
