BILD reports Joshua Kimmich will be deployed in midfield for the Germany national team under the new coach Jürgen Klopp. The Bayern Munich midfielder played at fullback in each of Germany’s four games at the World Cup.
However, according to BILD, Julian Nagelsmann was also planning to reverse that during the tournament. It is said that the former Bayern coach planned to use him in midfield starting from a potential Round of 16 clash against France. Germany’s surprise exit in the first knockout round eliminated that possibility.
BILD now confirmed that the first conversation between Klopp and Kimmich clarified important factors. Kimmich will remain as captain for the time being, and he’ll play in the central midfield position the same way he does at a club level.
The 31-year-old played his 500th Bayern game on the weekend against Elversberg. At international level, he has played out of position in every tournament he has played since his breakthrough in Euro 2016.
