After several media reports claimed that FC Barcelona had moved ahead of Bayern Munich in the race to sign Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United, the La Liga club’s president, Joan Laporta, has now confirmed that the deal is nearing completion.
“The signing of Gordon is being done, I’ve been kept informed of everything,” Laporta said, according to SPORT.
Barcelona are reportedly set to pay at least €80 million for Gordon, including add-ons – a fee Bayern weren't willing to match for the 25-year-old.
The German champions will now have to turn to alternatives as they look to strengthen their frontline for the 2026/27 season.
