Mainz send Krauß to England on loan
Heavily-capped German youth international Tom Krauß' rumored move to Bedfordshire has been officially confirmed. Contrary to previous reports, the Rheinhessen will not be selling the 23-year-old outright. Instead, the Leipzig native will move to the Isle on loan for the year. Krauß remains under contract with FSV Mainz 05 through 2027. Mainz had been openly shopping him throughout the course of the offseason.
Krauß was once quite the sought-after commodity after successful loan stints from his parent club of RB Leipzig to 1. FC Nürnberg and FC Schalke 04. It was such that Mainz were considered winners of a sweepstakes of sorts when they signed him for a reported €5 million last summer. Krauß made 29 Bundesliga appearances last season, but saw his estimated market worth drop from €7 million to €4 million amid ineffective performances.
“Tom wants more playing time and thus approached us with a request to head to England for a year," Mainz sporting CEO Christian Heidel noted in a statement, "We've agreed. We wish him all the best during his time in Luton and are looking forward to his return next summer."
