It’s “Der Klassiker” time on Saturday, as rivals Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund go head-to-head in a top-of-the-table clash in the Bundesliga.

The two teams are level on points after seven rounds of the Bundesliga season, with Bayern leading only on goal difference. Nevertheless, Lothar Matthäus expects Bayern to have the edge.

“Bayern go into this match as clear favourites, even though I like to see a bit of excitement at the top of the table,” Matthäus told Sky Germany.

He points to Bayern’s impressive home record this season, having won four and drawn one of their five home games across all competitions, with a goal difference of 25-4.

“They’re obviously a real force at the Allianz Arena, much like Leipzig, who seem to be able to perform only at home. Away from home, they’re completely ineffective. But Bayern are every bit as formidable in that respect,” Matthäus pointed out.

“Stuttgart 5-1, Leipzig 6-1, with Union in between at 7-0. Those are emphatic statements they have made recently, particularly at the Allianz Arena.”

The Bundesliga clash between Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund kicks off at the Allianz Arena on Saturday at 18:30 CET.
