In the podcast ‘The Late Run’ by former NFL star Chad Johnson, Thomas Müller spoke about the tasks that lie ahead for the German national team.
"What's certain is that German football is currently at a point where we're struggling to find the new generation that people really enjoy watching.
"It's not just about how we play, it's also about identity and a bit about mentality. The whole football world has been looking at us.
"They have been saying, 'Oh, we want that German mentality, to persevere and be a nuisance at every moment,'" explained Müller.
According to Müller, German football needs a clear identity again and sustainable structures must now be built to sustain that.
"It seems as if we've somehow lost that, because our style of play is sometimes a bit too beautiful, but not decisive enough.
"We're not clinical enough in front of goal. So we're kind of stuck in between," Müller points out regarding the DFB-elf's inaccuracies.
