For Stuttgart, the hard work put into securing a fresh loan deal for Greek center back Konstaninos Mavropanos appears to be reaping solid dividends. The 23-year-old scored an amazing, and also decisive, goal in the crucial weekend victory over Hoffenheim.

Mavropanos stripped Sargis Adamyan of the ball in the 59th. After a scintillating solo-run, the Greek international then cut inside the penalty area and powered home a near perfect long-range finish into the bottom corner. Thanks to his skills, Stuttgart built an insurmountable 2-0 lead at the the hour mark.

"We actually had two great goals from center backs today," club manager Sven Mislintat said afterwards, " 'Kempfi' [Marc Oliver Kempf] is our best scorer at this point and 'Dino' [Mavropanos] exemplifies what this team is: Always working and improving in search of the win."

Speaking further on Mavropanos, the VfB boss went on to compare him to the famous Lucimar "Lucio" Ferreira da Silva, whom Bundesliga fans fondly recall from his time with Leverkusen and Bayern München in the 2000s.

Mislintat also revealed that the Swabians actually had two purchase clauses for Mavropanos. One is compulsory, the other optional The center halve is currently in Baden-Württemberg on loan from Arsenal after Stuttgart agreed to a €500,000 loan fee.

"We have an obligatory purchase option of €3 million if we remain in the league," Mislintat disclosed with a grin, "There's also a free option if we get relegated. In both instances, we have the opportunity to take him. I think it's relatively clear what will happen with him."
