Mainz coach Bo Svensson rued Alexander Hack's first half sending off as his side crashed to a 4-1 defeat at the hands of RB Leipzig on Saturday.

Hack was shown a straight red card for handling in the area in the 19th minute, and André Silva stepped up to score from the penalty spot afterwards.

Leipzig went on to dominate the game and ultimately won the game comfortably.

"There were two different phases in the game. In the first, we got into the game well and put the opponent under pressure. Then there was a game-changing scene with Hack's mistake and the red card plus a penalty," Svensson told reporters after the game.

"Of course, it's difficult for our game when we're outnumbered. It was a different game after that."

RB Leipzig coach Domenico Tedesco said:

"Mainz played very well in the early stages and pressed high. After the red card we did well, controlled the game and are happy with the three important points."
