Lukas Nmecha reports in on comeback: "Slowly but surely."

Nmecha's injury came at a particularly challenging time for his prospect's in Niko Kovac's squad. Though the 24-year-old did register a tally off the bench during the matchday encounter in which he was injured, a prolonged slump of eight consecutive matches on-the-trot without a goal saw him lose his starting place to Danish center-forward Jonas Wind.
It can be assumed that the elder Nmecha brother will not factor in Kovac's plans for the starting XI even after he is once again fit. The VfL trainer has other options in the form of Wind, Omar Marmoush, and even Nmecha's younger brother Felix. Lukas can still likely hope to at least work his way back up to #2 on the depth chart as both Waldschmidt and Marmoush are heavily linked with outgoing transfers.
Nmecha announced that he would be reporting for the start of Wolfsburg's training camp in Portugal on January 3rd. Germany's green company team returns to the pitch against SC Freiburg on January 21st.
