Report: Four Bundesliga clubs consider bringing back Koch
German broadcaster Sport1 reports that at least four Bundesliga sides are interested in bringing German national team defender Robin Koch back to the Bundesrepublik.
Since departing SC Freiburg for Leeds United in the summer of 2020, German defender Robin Koch has made a name for himself with several notable performances working on the Isle. The 26-year-old's career for both club and country nevertheless find themselves at a standstill at present. Koch's Premiership side Leeds United are in danger of getting relegated to the Premiership. Koch hasn't been able to displace Bundesliga-based defenders in central defense on the German national team.
Koch's next career move will surely factor into his potential to once again gain some ground on the German Nationalmannschaft. Though numerous Premiership sides - Newcastle United being the most prominent one - are interested in his services, the Kaiserslautern native may wish to consider a return to his home country in order to catch more of the eyes on Bundestrainer Hansi Flick's scouting staff. German broadcaster Sport1 reports that at least four (as of yet unnamed) top-tier German sides are interested in bringing him in.
Koch hasn't featured for the German national team since a pre-European-Championship friendly against Denmark in June 2021. The former Freiburger was called up by then Bundestrainer Joachim Löw for the summer tournament, but went unused in the four official matches contested by Germany in the competition. Flick refrained from calling Koch up at the recent winter World Cup.
"I definitely want to play another tournament with Germany," the defender remarked in a recent interview with the German broadcaster, “The European Championship at home is my big goal. I will keep pushing for that. I'm hoping for a nomination against Peru [March 25] and Belgium [March 28]."
Flick has already announced that he wishes to utilize the coming international break to take a look at a few different players. In stating his desire to shore up the defensive ranks, Flick noted that he needed to test out a few alternatives on the back line. Koch has thus far earned eight caps for the senior squad.
