Dortmund's Rothe receives contract extension and loan-out to Kiel

Borussia Dortmund confirmed a new contract and a loan-out for 18-year-old defensive prospect Tom Rothe on Tuesday morning.
Dortmund defensive prospect Tom Rothe will spend the season on loan at Holstein Kiel. Rothe's parent club confirmed a new contract - good through 2026 - for the teenager on Tuesday morning. The youngster has already made four league appearances for die Schwarzgelben and featured three times in the Champions' League.

Rothe made one start for the BVB senior team under head-coach Marco Rose on matchday 30 of the 2021/22 campaign and scored his first Bundesliga goal in the deployment. Terms of the loan arrangement were made completely clear. The north German club will not have the option of purchasing the Germany U19 international.

"We firmly believe in the quality of Tom and wish to underscore this with a long-term contract extension," BVB sporting director Sebastian Kehl noted in a statement released by the club, "In order to take the next steps, it is important for him to be on the pitch as often as possible and to gain further competitive experience. We are convinced that he will succeed in this manner in Kiel."
