Leverkusen unveil Xhaka as new signing

Granit Xhaka is officially back in the Bundesliga after agreeing a five-year deal with Bayer Leverkusen.
Bayer Leverkusen have confirmed the signing of Granit Xhaka from Arsenal this evening.

The 30-year-old Switzerland international has put pen to paper on a contract with the Werkself until 2028.

"With Granit, we have managed to sign a top professional," said managing director for sport Simon Rolfes.

"His quality as a footballer is well known. But above all, there are very few players who can lead a team as convincingly as he can, thanks to his outstanding mentality and personality.

For Xhaka, the move to Leverkusen marks a return to the Bundesliga, where he pulled the strings in midfield for Borussia Mönchengladbach from 2012 to 2016.

"I know the league inside out and have always followed it from London. Bayer 04 is a club with an impressive history and ambitious goals," said the central midfielder.

"Above all, I see it as a club with a great future. Talking to the people in charge has been extremely motivating. People are ambitious and want to achieve - I'm really looking forward to the next few years.
