Kovac confirms Nmecha surgery: "We'll give him all the time in the world"

At a press conference today, VfL Wolfsburg coach Niko Kovac confirmed that Lukas Nmecha has undergone surgery due to ongoing knee problems. He also confirmed that the Wolves are expected to bring in a new striker before the window closes.
VfL Wolfsburg coach Niko Kovac has confirmed that Lukas Nmecha has undergone surgery on the knee problem that kept him out of the club's opening matches of the season.

With Nmecha out for a long time, Wolfsburg are in need of extra firepower up front, and it looks like they will get it, with Swedish striker Amin Sarr said to be close to signing.

"You know we are still looking for a striker because of the injury to Lukas, who had to have an operation. We are in the process of signing a striker. It is not over yet," Kovac told reporters at a press conference today.

Asked when Nmecha is expected to return, Kovac replied:

"I can't say. It depends on the healing process. We think it will take a while. Of course we'll give him all the time in the world. It's important that he's pain-free and happy to play football when he comes back.

The injury is another setback for the 24-year-old striker, who was limited to just 16 Bundesliga appearances last season due to knee problems.
