Beier on form run and German national team: "I see myself more with the U21s."

After scoring his fifth goal of the season against SV Werder Bremen last night, TSG 1899 Hoffenheim striker Maximilian Beier remained modest about his present form surge.

Another goal in last night's 3-2 win over SV Werder Bremen leaves 20-year-old TSG 1899 Hoffenheim striker Maximilian Beier with a total of five league tallies on the season. The lanky Brandenburg-native has notched a tally in all but two of his club's seven league fixtures this season. Naturally, his name has cropped up in German footballing circles when it comes to the German national team's search for a reliable number nine.

Beier's name was nevertheless not on the initial call-up list of newly-appointed Bundestrainer Julian Nagelsmann when the latest incarnation of the German Nationalmannschaft was released on Friday. Nagelsmann did nominate 1. FC Union Berlin veteran Kevin Behrens for the senior men's national team. Beier still awaits his first call up to the highest level and will spend the forthcoming international break with Antonio di Salvo's Germany U21s.

Beier emphasized that he wasn't disappointed when speaking to the Sky microphones last night. The recently returned Hannover loanee suggested that he was happy to take a more prudent developmental path. After all, the youngster had only contested nine top tier games prior to this season. It is worth noting that Beier has tallied twice for die Kraichgauer in the 2020/21 Europa League and - for both Hannover and Hoffenheim - netted five goals in the DFB Pokal.

"Things are going well for me at the moment," Beier said when commenting on his league form, "The team is putting me in good positions and I'm trying to make the most of it."

"I went to Hanover to gain playing practice and that time did me a lot of good," he continued, "[Right now] I see myself more with the U21s. I'll take the rest of it as it comes. I'm ready for all tasks."
