Sport Bild Report: Mainz decide to install Siewert permanently

Germany's main sporting tabloid is now reporting that - after holding talks on the matter - FSV Mainz 05 have opted to offer interim head-coach Jan Siewert a permanent position.
Having already openly stated that they were leaning in the direction of a permanent installation, the FSV Mainz 05 front-office have now reportedly decided that interim trainer Jan Siewert is the man to lead the team on a permanent basis. In a report published today, Germany's "Sport Bild" tabloid claims that FSV bosses Christian Heidel and Martin Schmidt have decided upon this route after a series of meetings over the last two days.

Mainz have won one, lost two, and drawn four league matches since Siewert took over for the departed Bo Svensson at the beginning of November. Though the Nullfünfter only achieved a victory in the first of Siewert's seven matches in charge, the general play of the team has left many to conclude that the Rheinhessen are playing well under Siewert's stewardship.

The German tabloid reports that an announcement may be delayed for a few days whilst the details of Siewert's new contract are finalized. The 41-year-old has been working with the club as a youth trainer and assistant coach since 2020. Siewert also served as the team's interim trainer once before in January 2021 just prior to Svensson's arrival.
