Hannes Wolf on coach Marco Rose:
"It's destiny that we're working together again"

By Peter Weis   @PeterVicey

It definitely proved an emotional day for Gladbach forward Hannes Wolf. After struggling mightily to find a place in Marco Rose's preferred system since arriving in the summer, the 21-year-old Austrian finally opened his account; against the parent club that considered him expendable enough to cut loose no less.

Hannes Wolf and his trainer go back quite a ways. The 44-year-old Gladbach coach once groomed the young talent during his two-year-stint in charge of RB Salzburg. Now Marco Rose has a crucial win against the club representing his home town and Wolf has found a way to do his old mentor proud.

"We have a very good and very open year-long relationship," Wolf said of Rose after the match, "He's known me since I was 14 or 15. We've been through a lot together. I believe it's destiny that we're back together again working for the same club. Of course, that was one of the main reasons I came here."

Wolf sported an unflinching smile after the match. He declared it "not difficult at all" to display strong emotions after scoring the game-winning goal. "The game today infuses me with confidence heading into the next few weeks," Wolf radiantly declared, "I consider myself a Borussia Mönchengladbach player. As I've already said several times in the last few weeks, I hope to be here for a very long time."

Wolf's loan arrangement with Gladbach remains set to expire at the end of this campaign. Prospects for a longer-term stay appeared bleak in the early going as he came nowhere close to fitting in with the team's tactics. The weekend match does much to shift the dynamic.

A visibly elated Rose also expressed delight at the result. "I'm just insanely happy for him," Rose divulged to reporters after the full-time whistle, "I know that Hannes can handle [difficult] situations well and that they even motivate him. He gave a great answer on the pitch with an excellent performance. Today he demonstrated that he's an important player for us and can continue to be so."

On the other side of the result, Leipzig trainer Julian Nagelsmann offered congratulations to his former player and downplayed his team's second consecutive goalless loss. "One can lose 0-1 to Gladbach," the 33-year-old coach noted, "It's not the end of the world."
