Sport1 Report: Zakaria switches representation, may extend with Gladbach after all

German broadcaster Sport1 now reports that Denis Zakaria has switched agents and there is renewed hope of a contractual extension with Borussia Mönchengladbach.

While not explicitly refuting reports surfacing yesterday about a deal with AS Roma, German broadcaster Sport1 reports that Denis Zakaria of Borussia Mönchengladbach has switched professional representation. The 24-year-old Swiss international is apparently no longer a client of Lian Sports Group, but close family members trusted to manage his personal affairs.

If true, this casts serious doubt on what was a report from a reputable source yesterday claiming that the midfielder had agreed to terms with AS Roma. Even if Zakaria had sorted out a salary structure with the Serie A club, BMG sporting director Max Eberl could have nixed the transfer easily by holding out for a transfer fee in the closer to the €30 million range.

It's possible that the switch in representation signals a shift in Zakaria's attitude to possibly extending his contract with the German foals, which expires at the end of this current campaign. The summer transfer window slams shut on August 31st; one week from today.
